Our Mission

reduce our net carbon emissions to zero by 2027, establish a community that cares for the environment, and ensure our school is zero waste.

OUR PLANET

IS IN DANGER

Anthropogenic global warming brought on by greenhouse gas emissions has already caused a 1.2°C increase in mean global temperatures, with 2020 being the warmest year on record in over 140 years.

As the earth changes, sea levels will rise, biodiversity will diminish, and extreme weather events will become more frequent.

As a school with a community of over 1,500 people, we believe that ISZL has a duty to take responsibility for its carbon emissions.

WE AIM TO HELP

We work by…

- Undertaking projects that preserve the local and global natural environment

- Offsetting 2,800 tons of carbon emissions annually

- Involving our school community in ecological education

- Establishing meaningful collaboration with change-makers in Switzerland and abroad

OUR CO2 EMISSIONS

In 2014 and 2015, we measured our carbon output with a professional study in collaboration with MyClimate. ISZL produces approximately 3,000 tons of CO₂ each year (2/3 directly from campus and 1/3 from families).

Our main goal is to get this number down to zero. We will each this through 3 types of projects:

1. Reduction projects to limit the CO₂ produced on-site

2. Substitution projects to install more efficient, renewable energy technologies on our campuses

3. Offsetting our remaining footprint through our own ISZL Offset Projects
