What is carbon credit?

A carbon credit represents an amount of CO₂ that has been prevented from entering or has been removed from the atmosphere. When you support one of our projects, we invest the money into activities that prevent new CO₂ emissions, like installing renewable energy sources in developing countries, or remove existing CO₂ from the atmosphere, like planting forests. We then measure how much CO₂ is removed to determine the carbon credit of the project. For example, a reforestation effort in Iceland can remove 3 tonnes of CO₂ per year for every hectare of forest. By comparing your personal emissions to your contributions to our projects, you can approximate your net yearly emissions of CO₂.
